Police arrest 28-year-old in Viareggio bar break-in using a manhole cover
He was caught minutes later with stolen cash and a switchblade, after the alarm triggered.
Police in Viareggio arrested a 28-year-old after a “spaccata” break-in at a bar on the Darsena.
The man allegedly used a cast-iron street manhole cover to break into the venue, aiming for the cash register. The alarm went off, officers arrived quickly, and he was stopped on foot while trying to leave.
By the time police reached the scene, the bar’s shutter and entrance window had been heavily damaged. The suspect was bleeding from cuts caused by broken glass.
Officers also spotted a man matching the description nearby and intercepted him after a short distance. A personal search recovered the cash stolen moments earlier, along with a switchblade. Inside the shop, the attacker had targeted the register, taking money before throwing the register into a nearby canal.
He was arrested for theft and for unlawful possession of weapons. The case is being handled by police following the arrest.
