Police seize 49 grams of cannabis in Vicenza, arrest fleeing suspect
A man faces charges after resisting officers during the roadside control and escape attempt.
Vicenza police arrested a man suspected of drug dealing after he was found with 49 grams of cannabis, divided into 25 parcels.
Officers from the Volanti units stepped in on 28 October during a territorial patrol. The man was spotted inside the commercial premises “Chicken N Chicken” in viale Roma, despite a DACUR ban barring him from access to urban areas that also included the venue.
Police said the 36-year-old, who had no identification documents, resisted when officers tried to take him to the Questura for identification. He broke free, ran on foot, and led officers on a chase through the city center, jumping over multiple fences and damaging one while trying to get away.
During the pursuit, officers also noticed the suspect hiding a plastic bag inside a cavity in a wall. Surveillance cameras connected to the Questura’s operations room captured the moment. The bag was recovered and contained 25 cannabis involucri with a total gross weight of 49 grams, later seized for criminal proceedings.
During the arrest, police seized two mobile phones and 300 euros in cash, which investigators said were consistent with an alleged dealing activity.
Further checks in police databases showed numerous prior offenses related to drugs, including convictions for similar facts in 2023 and 2024, as well as arrests and reports between 2023 and 2026.
The man was arrested on suspicion of offenses under Article 73, paragraph 5 of Presidential Decree 309/1990 and Article 337 of the Italian Criminal Code, for drug possession for dealing and resisting a public official. He was held in custody at the Questura’s secure holding rooms while awaiting the judicial authority’s decisions.
