Vienna police arrested a 35-year-old man after he allegedly tried to hit two girls with a wooden bat in the Sophienpark in Neubau. The incident happened on 5 November 2026 at 21:15. The girls were 15 and 17 when the man allegedly attempted to strike them, then threw the wooden bat after they ran away, threatening to kill them. Police reported that the two youths had no acquaintance with the suspect and that there had been no prior dispute or confrontation. During the arrest by the Bereitschaftseinheit Vienna, the man became increasingly aggressive. Officers from Polizeiinspektion Kandlgasse, with support from the Bereitschaftseinheit, used physical force to take him into custody. The suspect was still in police custody at the time of the report. An alcohol test showed 1.6 per mille.
