Vienna police arrest 19-year-old with 5,000 euros of looted goods
Three bags of stolen clothes and jewelry were seized after he fled the station.
Police in Vienna arrested a 19-year-old man leaving the train station with three loaded bags, after checks linked the items to looting during riots in Lyon.
The arrest happened on Sunday, 18 October, around 10 a.m., as the young man came out of the station in Vienna from a train arriving from Lyon. Officers positioned near the police station spotted him, and when he saw them, he tried to run but was quickly caught.
Inside his three bags, police found goods worth more than 5,000 euros. The items were allegedly taken from stores pillaged during the events of Saturday, 17 October, in Lyon’s Presqu’île area. Among the seized merchandise were clothing from Zara, Pandora jewelry, and football shoes.
The man, who lives in Vienna and was not known to police services, was placed in custody immediately after the arrest.
