Vienna police arrest 23-year-old after bicycle lock theft
A damaged lock led officers to a man found with a bicycle and seized items.
Police in Vienna arrested a 23-year-old man after he allegedly stole a bicycle from near Servitengasse in Vienna’s Alsergrund district.
The owner reported the bike missing on 31 October 2026, around 01:30. He said he had parked and locked the bicycle close to Servitengasse at about 00:30, but found it gone an hour later. Police located a damaged bicycle lock at the scene.
Using tracking, the man was able to identify the bicycle’s likely location in the area of Boschstraße in Vienna-Döbling. Officers moved to the address and stopped a man in an inner courtyard of a building complex, next to a trash bin, who had a bicycle with him.
The 23-year-old, who has been marked in the report as coming from StA: Hungary, admitted the accusations. He allegedly broke the lock and stole the bicycle.
During a search, police found items in his rucksack including jewellery, a baton, a balaclava, multiple Allen keys, a bicycle pump, and a small amount of drugs. He was placed in temporary custody and was taken to a Vienna prison on an order by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The case status is temporary custody, with the man held by judicial order following the investigation into the bicycle theft.
