Vienna police, with the Landeskriminalamt Wien, launched an operation targeting suspected members of an organised group trafficking large quantities of cocaine in the Greater Vienna area. The probe ran from November 2025 to March 2026. Investigators built the case that the group was operating as a criminal organisation and pursued further steps in close coordination with the Vienna public prosecutor. A key lead targeted the main suspect, a 43-year-old, who received a cocaine delivery of about 20 kilograms in January 2026. The drugs had allegedly been transported from Valencia, Spain to Vienna in a professionally modified smuggling vehicle. Police arrested the 43-year-old shortly after he took delivery. At the scene of the handover, officers watched him pass about 600 grams of cocaine to suspected sub-dealers. A 36-year-old and a 39-year-old were also arrested at the time. During a search of the 43-year-old’s premises, police found the remaining cocaine from the delivery and also seized about 27 kilograms of cannabis resin. In another part of the operation, officers stopped a suspected smuggler, a 31-year-old, from leaving Austria. In his vehicle, police discovered a professionally built concealment compartment holding 10 kilograms of cocaine. The operation relied on cooperation involving the Landeskriminalamt Steiermark, an intervention unit against street crime, and officers of the border and foreigner police in Spielfeld. A further suspect, a 38-year-old, was also arrested after police investigations. Authorities said he had allegedly issued a dangerous threat to his ex-wife, and they obtained an arrest warrant through the Vienna public prosecutor. When he was taken into custody, officers found about 6.7 grams of cocaine, 14.0 grams of marijuana, cash in the three-digit euro range, and a loaded handgun in his vehicle. In March 2026, investigators arrested another man, described as a cannabis resin supplier linked to the 43-year-old. During a search of his home, police seized a large amount of cannabis resin and cannabis herb, totalling about 37 kilograms of cannabis resin, including material that was already opened and possibly distributed. Overall, police seized 30,156.3 grams of cocaine, 27,457.6 grams of cannabis resin, 435.6 grams of marijuana, and 16,850 euros in cash, along with a vehicle fitted with a smuggling hideout. Vienna police said it was the largest cocaine seizure by the Landeskriminalamt Wien in the last ten years.
