Vienna driver flees police, Schuss to a tire during stop
A 22-year-old was arrested after refusing orders to leave the vehicle.
A driver led police on a high-speed chase in Vienna before a beamte fired at a tire during the pursuit, police said. The 25-year-old passenger was stopped after trying to flee.
Officers from the Stadtpolizeikommando Landstraße spotted a car with German plates in the area of Otto-Preminger-Straße on 14.10.2026 at about 22:00. After the driver was signalled to stop following a minor administrative offence, he accelerated toward the A23 and began to evade officers.
Police kept the pursuit, and the Landesverkehrsabteilung Wien joined forces. The driver repeatedly pretended he would leave the motorway but did not slow down, and he drove for a longer period on the breakdown lane. After exiting at Hirschstetten, the car continued along Hirschstettner Straße, with officers observing further administrative violations including speeding, driving on a cycle path and running red lights.
Near Donaufelder Straße, police managed to stop the vehicle. The 25-year-old passenger got out and tried to run off but was quickly detained.
Officers repeatedly ordered the 22-year-old driver to leave the car. He did not comply, then suddenly started the vehicle again and fled. During the chase, a beamte fired from a short distance, striking a tire. The driver then continued at speed along a footpath before police finally managed to stop him in the Richard-Neutra-Gasse in Vienna Floridsdorf.
The 22-year-old has no valid driving licence, and he stated this as the reason for his escape. Investigators also could not confirm the ownership details of the car on the spot, as he did not provide proof. He was provisionally arrested, and further investigations are being carried out by the Landeskriminalamt Wien, Außenstelle Nord. No one was injured during the operation.
