A 19-year-old was taken into custody in Vienna-Ottakring after police say he resisted officers during a probe into suspected vandalism at a garage, while a moped lay damaged on the ground. Police were called on 29.10.2026 at 02:15 by an alert passer-by who said youths had knocked over a moped and damaged it. The man provided video showing the group fleeing the scene. Officers searched nearby and found the damaged moped at the ground. The youths allegedly ran to a public parking garage nearby. Even with the garage basement door closed, officers could hear voices. Four youths then burst through the door and ran straight into the officers. Two of the suspects, a cooperative 18-year-old and a 15-year-old, complied. Two other men, both 19-year-olds, allegedly fought police during the attempted arrest. One of them is said to have struck an officer multiple times on the upper body and tried to pull away equipment including a torch and a body-worn camera. The 19-year-old accused of attempted resistance against state authority and damage to property was provisionally arrested. After questioning, he was released. All four were reported over suspected damage to property. During the arrest, a female officer was injured and could not continue her shift.
