The 22-year-old was detained in Favoriten and a request for remand was set to follow.
Vienna police have arrested a 22-year-old suspected of robbing a man of a newly bought mobile phone worth around 1,000 euros.
The alleged robbery happened on 11 May 2026 in 1210 Vienna. Police said the suspect accompanied a victim to sign a mobile phone contract and then, after they left the shop, stole the new handset.
Investigators at the Landeskriminalamt Wien, Außenstelle Nord, Group Hauer, spent months working on the case. The suspect was later also linked to several other offences, including fraud and extortion, as well as the removal of cashless payment instruments.
He was also wanted over unpaid administrative fines totaling around 12,000 euros. Police added that the man has an existing ban on entering the federal territory.
A detention order issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Vienna led to the arrest on 14 October 2026. Officers detained him in a family apartment in Wien-Favoriten after he was found hiding in a bed drawer.
The accused was taken into custody and admitted to a prison facility. The application for pre-trial detention was announced to be made.
