A suspected street robber allegedly tried to snatch a bag from an 81-year-old man on Favoritenstraße in Vienna, pushing him to the ground after the victim resisted. The incident took place on 17 October 2026 at about 07:00. Two witnesses chased the fleeing suspect. One witness saw him throw the bag in the area of the Wielandpark, and the bag was returned to the pensioner shortly after. The stolen wallet was later found without any money inside and handed back to the victim. The 81-year-old was not physically injured. Police launched immediate search measures, which initially came up empty. Officers later identified a suspect using a detailed description, and they were able to find a 26-year-old man with no registered address in Austria. The suspect is said to have appeared in police records multiple times. The case is being investigated further by the State Criminal Police Office Vienna, South Department. After an order by the Vienna public prosecutor’s office, a detention warrant was issued against the 26-year-old suspect.
