A 21-year-old driver in Villach crashed into a police vehicle during an attempted escape after being stopped for excessive speed. Police said officers in the Villach area stopped a car for going too fast around 00.30 yesterday. The driver showed symptoms of alcohol intoxication. After a longer pursuit, the man was finally able to be stopped. When police approached the vehicle, he allegedly tried to move his car again in an attempt to get away from police control. Instead, he collided with the officers’ service vehicle. Police then ordered him to take a breath test, which he refused. Because of his “agitated, aggressive state” and because he wanted to continue driving, the 21-year-old was arrested and taken to the police holding centre. He was not in possession of a valid driving licence, police said, and will be reported for the offences he is suspected of committing. Legal proceedings are ongoing, with the case being handled based on the offences set out by police.
