Vinnytsia police detained a 43-year-old man suspected of stealing $450 from a 20-year-old woman while she was riding a trolleybus. The theft happened on 3 November. After the woman got off the trolleybus, she noticed her money was missing and immediately reported it to law enforcement. Officers from Vinnytsia District Police, working with criminal police units, traced the victim’s route and checked passengers who had been on the trolleybus. A man previously held criminal responsibility for similar offences came into focus. During initial investigative actions, police seized the stolen money from the suspect. Officers also found narcotic substances, cannabis and methadone. The man is being held in a temporary detention facility while investigators prepare a notice of suspicion and consider a pre-trial measure. Prosecutors are handling the case through the Vinnytsia district prosecutor’s office. Investigators are probing the case under Part 4 of Article 185 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, theft, which carries a possible prison term of up to eight years. Police are also checking whether the detainee is linked to other crimes.
