Money laundering suspect arrested in Dublin after NCA warrant
Edwin Omokhuale, 39, was detained ahead of a flight from Dublin Airport and faces extradition to the UK.
A man wanted by the UK National Crime Agency (NCA) in connection with a multi-million pound fraud has been arrested in Dublin.
Edwin Omokhuale, 39, was detained on an arrest warrant issued by the UK by officers from An Garda Síochána just prior to boarding a flight to Paris at Dublin Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
He is wanted over alleged money laundering linked to a fraud committed against an Australian mining company of around US$23 million (approximately £17 million) in early 2023.
According to investigators, the fraud involved people they believe were based in the UK deceiving employees of the company into sending money to accounts controlled by the alleged offenders.
Omokhuale, who lived in the UK at the time of the alleged fraud, is due to appear in court in Dublin on Thursday 10 September as extradition proceedings to bring him back to the UK commence.
He has been arrested and is currently facing allegations; no conviction is stated in the report.
