Poland police in Mokotów arrest man after axe attack on officers
He was charged with active assault on police and jailed for three months.
A 71-year-old man attacked police with an axe during an intervention on Warsaw’s Mokotów, according to Poland Police. The court sent him to custody for three months after prosecutors sought his arrest.
During the incident, the man allegedly went after the officers, acting with an “evasive intention” to directly kill a police officer by trying to strike him with the axe.
Prosecutors brought charges of active assault on police officers. The charges reflect that he allegedly aimed to carry out a killing while officers were on duty.
On the basis of the request by the prosecution, the court applied pre-trial detention for three months, keeping him in custody while the case proceeds.
The suspect is currently held on remand following the court order, with the investigation continuing under the criminal case.
