Fourteen people were arrested in York and Selby after police seized weapons and drugs during a Mischief Night crackdown. North Yorkshire Police carried out the Operation Tornado blitz on 4 November, staging enhanced patrols in anti-social behaviour hotspots and conducting checks at out-of-town retail parks using plain-clothed officers and unmarked vehicles. Officers targeted suspected drug dealing and shop crime. A 19-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were arrested in a hotel room during the operation. Police recovered around 100 wraps of suspected crack cocaine and about £1,000 in cash. The pair have been charged with supplying class A drugs, possession of an offensive weapon in a private place and possession of criminal property. North Yorkshire Police also trialled new e-bikes during the day, with neighbourhood policing teams using the vehicles to patrol, engage with the public and respond more quickly across busy areas. The two charged suspects are awaiting their next court stage after the arrests during Operation Tornado.
