29-year-old breaks into Wiener Imbiss in Hernals watched live on camera
Police identify him from footage and arrest him shortly after the burglary.
A 29-year-old man broke into an Imbiss stand in Hernals, Vienna, while the owner watched the footage live on his smartphone.
In the night from Saturday to Sunday, the suspect smashed the entrance door. Inside, he allegedly searched for cash and other valuables, then fled the scene without obvious loot.
The business owner noticed the intrusion immediately when the video surveillance system streamed live. He alerted police right away.
Officers from the Ottakring City Police Department launched an urgent search and stopped the 29-year-old man nearby soon after. Video recordings then helped confirm his identity.
Police said the footage from the surveillance system matched the suspect clearly, and he was taken into temporary custody. The suspect is already known to police, and the Landeskriminalamt Wien, Außenstelle West, took over the investigation.
He remains in custody as the probe continues under the criminal investigation team in Vienna.
