Malta Police arrested a 26-year-old Colombian woman at Malta International Airport after suspected ketamine was found in her luggage, with an estimated market value of just over €70,000. Police said they found two large blocks and a smaller packet of the substance following checks on passengers arriving from Spain. The operation was carried out by the Malta Police Force, with help from the Customs Department and Spanish and Colombian authorities. Investigators had information suggesting the woman was travelling from Spain to Malta and was linked to a drug trafficking ring. When police received information she would arrive on a flight from Madrid last Saturday, officers inspected passengers from that flight. After she was identified and stopped, the suspected ketamine was recovered from her luggage. The woman was arrested and Magistrate Renata Farrugia was informed. An inquiry was opened and experts were appointed to assist. She is being held in police custody for further investigation, and is expected to be brought before Magistrate Tanya Sammut at about 10am on Monday.
