A 27-year-old woman has been charged after a police officer was shot in Nottingham city centre.
Aisha Zaman, of Collison Street, Hyson Green, faces charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of that firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence. Nottinghamshire Police said she has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, around 4.50am, on Angel Row. A police officer approached two people described as acting suspiciously before being shot in the foot.
The officer was taken to hospital and is continuing to receive medical treatment, police added. A weapon appearing to be a sawed-off double-barrelled shotgun was pictured at the scene.
So far, officers have arrested four other people on suspicion of offences connected to the case. Two men, aged 24 and 30, and two women, aged 25 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
A man, 35, and a woman, 33, have also been detained on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender.
Detective Chief Superintendent Rich Bull said the investigation team is still following a number of lines of inquiry to arrest and charge those responsible. He added that the injured officer has asked for privacy while he undergoes treatment.
The latest status is that Zaman has been charged and remanded in custody ahead of her court appearance on Friday, as the investigation continues.
