A concert at Zurich’s Hallenstadion descended into chaos after four men allegedly used pepper spray to steal jewellery from spectators. Police in Zurich said they arrested the four suspects on Monday evening, during the concert or shortly after, and linked them to robberies in the venue’s crowd. Investigators from the cantonal police and the Zurich city police said they saw the men mix with concertgoers who were dancing, approaching people to take their necklaces during the mosh pit. When the group was stopped, the men were found with several stolen necklaces and a pepper spray can. The probe is ongoing. Eyewitness accounts collected by 20 Minuten described sudden eye and nose burning and severe coughing, followed by running and panic inside the hall. Hallenstadion officials said they regretted that spectators had suffered and had to endure such an ordeal. The Zurich police have not said how the pepper spray was used, but they did confirm the arrests and the seizure of the stolen jewellery and pepper spray.
