Up to 120 people rioted in Berlin’s Märkisches Viertel, with a Molotov cocktail hitting a police officer during the unrest, police said. A 14-year-old was detained in connection with the violent clashes. The disturbances broke out on Sunday evening in Berlin-Reinickendorf, starting with a group of around 30 people. Police reported a “cat and mouse” pattern as the size and layout of the groups changed after officers arrived. During one incident, a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a police officer. The officer was hit, but the device only ignited on impact with the ground. In that sequence, police arrested the 14-year-old. The riot continued for more than two hours. During the unrest, participants also set off pyrotechnics and threw another Molotov cocktail. Stones were reportedly thrown as well. In addition, people tried to move a container onto the road and set it alight. Police said the situation was also reported by RBB earlier. In the neighbouring area of Viernheim in the Bergstraße district, a separate group of youths caused disturbances with fireworks and a barricade. Police said three children and nine youths were temporarily taken into custody. Officers in that case responded to multiple emergency calls about youths throwing fireworks while riding e-scooters in Viernheim’s city centre. Police moved in with reinforcements and police dogs. When officers arrived, some youths reportedly disguised themselves and threw fireworks and hit police and police vehicles. A barricade made from tables and benches was set up, and a rubbish bin was set on fire and extinguished by firefighters. Police later dispersed the group and took 12 people to the station.
