A police investigator in Sofia was arrested after allegedly taking a bribe of 500 euros, authorities said. The officer, identified with the initials Georgi A., was detained during an operation by the Ministry of Interior Directorate for Internal Security. He was reportedly caught receiving money that had been marked with tracking markings. Police said the request was made in connection with an ongoing pre-trial case he was working on. Investigators allege he promised to exert influence over the case for the payment. The operation followed a complaint to the Directorate for Internal Security, which handles signals about misconduct and corruption within the Ministry of Interior. After the report, a planned action was set up to document the alleged offence. At the handover, Internal Security officers carried out the arrest. Marked banknotes were found on the suspect during the operation. Materials from the operation are expected to be submitted to the competent prosecutor’s office, which will decide whether to bring charges. At the moment, no details have been officially released about the specific case he was investigating or whether others were involved.
