Police in Alba have arrested two people accused of posing as carabinieri and emptying the homes of two elderly women. The alleged scam hit two residents of Alba, in Italy, after the suspects entered their homes pretending to belong to the Carabinieri. The total value of money and jewellery taken was 53,900 euros. Investigators acted after multiple reports about attempts in the area using the same method, described as the finto carabiniere scam. In these cases, suspects build trust by claiming to be part of the forces of order, then use that credibility to gain access to the victim’s home. Carabinieri from the Alba and Chieri units launched targeted checks during the afternoon of Wednesday 14 October 2026. They stopped the two suspects after the thefts. According to the reconstruction, a 76-year-old Alba resident was robbed of 3,900 euros in cash and jewellery estimated at 25,000 euros, for a total damage of about 28,900 euros. A second victim, an 87-year-old woman living in Alba, was targeted for jewellery worth 25,000 euros. The officers recovered the entire stolen items, including cash and jewellery, and began the process of returning the goods to the rightful owners. An arrest was carried out for a 51-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, both described in the case as of Campania origin. They were taken to prison facilities in Torino and Asti, where they were made available to the judicial authorities. They are accused of fraud in aggravated form, committed together. The case is now in the hands of the courts, with the accused held in custody while the procedure continues.
