Police arrest 2 young men after €58,000 false bank transfer for camper
A caravan bought in the Torinese is seized again in Lugo and returned in custody.
Carabinieri have arrested two young men in Lugo after a €58,000 camper purchase in the Torinese was allegedly linked to a false bank transfer.
The victim, a 62-year-old from Turin, bought the caravan on Monday, but an attestato of payment later proved to be fake. He then searched used-vehicle listings and found the same caravan again, this time with a new price and a new owner.
Mercoledì, police moved first in Lugo, around 500 kilometres from the original sale. After a report that the camper was in the industrial area, the Norm unit started an observation service.
The caravan, a Renault Font Vendome Master Van, appeared in front of an auto paperwork agency with an Audi A4 following behind. A 22-year-old stepped out. Carabinieri approached him, but he tried to give a different name and showed the vehicle registration papers, telling officers to inspect the van and pointing to the man on the Audi as the legitimate owner.
Investigators recognised the caravan as the one allegedly used to set up the fraud in the Torinese. Both young men were blocked and identified, a 22-year-old resident in Lugo and a 21-year-old resident in Ravenna.
Officers seized evidence including four payment cards, a cell phone and a Romanian document in the 22-year-old’s possession. Inside the camper, they found the vehicle registration papers showing the new ownership date matching the day of the alleged scam.
On the Audi, police found a knuckle-duster, six payment cards, a Romanian passport belonging to a 24-year-old, two electronic keys and a Telepass. All items were seized, and the camper was placed in judicial custody and handed back to the 64-year-old identified by the prosecution as the legitimate owner.
The two suspects were arrested without any precautionary measure applied, according to Il Resto del Carlino. The arrests will be reviewed at a court convalidation hearing set for the coming weeks.
