EPPO launches second fraud probe into EU funds for Madrid rail maintenance
Investigative measures are under way at ADIF, AESF and Spain’s Court of Auditors.
European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) investigators are carrying out investigative measures in Madrid into possible fraud involving EU funds meant for maintenance of the Madrid-Seville high-speed rail line.
The EPPO said it is acting today at Spain’s Administrator of Railway Infrastructure (ADIF), the State Railway Safety Agency (AESF) and the Court of Auditors.
The second investigation focuses on whether EU money tied to upkeep of the rail link was handled in a way that could amount to fraud.
The inquiry is ongoing, with the EPPO conducting the investigative measures at the named rail and oversight bodies in Spain.
