EPPO charges nine suspects over smuggling hazardous salvage vehicles
The scheme allegedly imported cars from the US, did cosmetic repairs, and evaded customs duties.
Nine suspects have been charged in an EPPO case over an alleged scheme to smuggle hazardous salvage vehicles from the United States into Europe.
According to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office in Berlin, the criminal organisation imported salvage cars from the US and sold them after cosmetic repairs. Prosecutors say the group also evaded customs duties as part of the operation.
The indictment follows an investigation into how the vehicles were moved and then resold. Prosecutors allege that cosmetic work was used to reshape their appearance after import, while paperwork and costs were handled in a way that avoided the duties owed.
Legal proceedings have now reached the charging stage, with EPPO filing an indictment against nine suspects as the investigation moves forward.
