Slovenian police to stage intensified checks on motorways for European Mobility Week
The campaign runs 16–22 September 2026 and includes a national focus on vulnerable road users.
European Mobility Week, running from 16 to 22 September 2026, will take place alongside Slovenia’s national “Vulnerable Road Users” prevention campaign.
The campaign will focus particularly on pedestrians, cyclists, e-scooter users, motorcyclists and moped riders. The police are taking part in the programme.
As part of the activities, the police announced that they will carry out intensified checks on motorways and expressways across the country on Thursday, 17 September 2026.
The European initiative is also linked to ROADPOL’s “A Day Without Road Fatalities” campaign on 17 September. The aim is to ensure there are no road traffic fatalities on the roads at least for one day, with a longer-term goal shared by European countries, including Slovenia, described as “Vision Zero”.
ROADPOL’s materials focus on drivers’ responsibility to help ensure safer journeys for the most vulnerable road users, noting that these road users are not protected by a vehicle’s bodywork in the event of a collision, which can make the consequences particularly severe. The information also highlights that vulnerable road users have responsibilities of their own, including not relying on drivers to spot them in time—especially when visibility is poor—and avoiding risky behaviour such as looking at a mobile phone while crossing the road.
A video produced for the campaign highlights five key risks, including using a mobile phone while crossing the road, crossing recklessly, poor visibility at night, wearing headphones in traffic, and walking around traffic while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
