Former Pordenone traffic cop jailed for resisting arrest and stalking in Padua
Luca Caroppo is also under investigation for persecuting his ex lawyer after prior restraining orders.
Padua carabinieri jailed former municipal officer Luca Caroppo after he resisted a police attempt to serve an order, and he is now also accused of stalking his ex lawyer.
The arrest followed actions in Padua at the start of the week, when officers from the Prato della Valle unit had to notify Caroppo of an act tied to a series of violations. Instead of complying, Caroppo opposed the notification and posted videos on his Facebook profile criticizing the Carabinieri.
A judge, Vittoria Giansanti, validated the arrest in a summary hearing and ordered Caroppo held in the Due Palazzi detention facility.
Caroppo has also been entered in the investigators’ register for acts persecuting his former legal representative. The lawyer, Katia Rossato, said she was Caroppo’s “main target” and that she had to protect her private life and work.
Prosecutors cite that Caroppo had already received an order from the Questore but allegedly kept persecuting the lawyer. He had previously been arrested and placed under house arrest in Puglia over the stalking case before returning to the same conduct.
The article also reports that Caroppo used social media to publicize the release of Erik Zorzi, described as the convicted killer of Nicoleta Rotaru, with Zorzi already sentenced to life in first instance. Caroppo had met Zorzi while both were held at Due Palazzi.
Earlier, Caroppo ran into justice in 2011 for an attack inside a post office in Pordenone against Questura officers. After being removed from the local police force, he was also in trouble for allegedly using vehicle permits belonging to the Pordenone and Roveredo municipal administrations. The record says his Facebook posts attacking Carabinieri and the judicial office began after eight months behind bars.
Most recently, prosecutors Roberto D’Angelo asked that Caroppo be jailed for the resistance episode and for the stalking accusation. The latest status is that he has been held in custody following the judge’s decision, while the stalking investigation is ongoing.
