Four detained over murder of Elia Cobián in Galapagar home
Eighty-year-old was found dead on 6 May after alleged robbery with violence.
Spanish Guardia Civil detectives have detained four people suspected of murdering Elia Cobián, an 80-year-old who ran the historic Almacenes Cobián store in Pontejos, in a violent assault at her home in Galapagar.
The woman was killed on 6 May at a property in the Sobrepeña estate, in the La Navata area. Police say she was bound, gagged and hit, and that the house was left in disarray, with several personal items missing, pointing to robbery with violence.
Investigators launched the search after workers found a broken window and could not contact Cobián. They alerted her lawyer, who had keys. When the home was opened, her body was found.
Guardia Civil carried out arrests in two locations: two suspects were taken in the San Gregorio neighbourhood of Galapagar, one arrest was made in Madrid, and another in Villajoyosa, Alicante. Officers also conducted three residential searches in Galapagar.
As the case developed, police carried out a crime reconstruction on 29 September at the Galapagar property. Earlier on, investigators placed suspects near a gas station about three kilometres from the estate using security cameras, but then they lost the trail.
The investigation remains open, and the four detainees are set to be brought before the relevant judicial authority in the coming hours, after which further legal steps will follow.
