Guillaume Meurice arrested during a police identity check in Liège
The comedian reacts online after police say he refused to move during the stop.
French comedian Guillaume Meurice was arrested during a police identity check in the Belgian city of Liège, after he allegedly refused officers' requests to move on.
The incident happened late Saturday into Sunday, around 02:00, outside the Warzone café.
Police said Meurice approached officers on patrol with a "mocking attitude" while they were carrying out identity checks. Despite several requests, he allegedly did not move away. Officers then took him further to identify him and carry out the check, before asking him to leave the Carré.
The police said they did not know his profession and that he was checked "like any other person." They added that multiple checks were carried out in front of the establishment during the evening, when officers were allegedly insulted and beer glasses were thrown. The police said these incidents were not attributed to Meurice, and that the events were filmed and the images were kept.
Meurice has publicly commented on the episode through a Facebook post about "la police belge." No charges, court dates, or sentencing details were provided in the report.
