An INSP employee was detained on suspicion of taking bribes to help people obtain driver’s licenses and avoid traffic penalties, prosecutors said. Investigators allege the suspect would intervene to facilitate obtaining driving permits, unlawfully remove penalty points and cancel traffic offence reports. He is also suspected of assigning traffic sanctions to other people and helping certain drivers escape contraventional liability. Officers from the Internal Protection and Anti-Corruption Service (SPIA), working with prosecutors, carried out searches before the arrest. The man is being investigated for passive corruption and trafficking of influence. Prosecutors asked for preventive arrest, but the court ordered house arrest. The investigation is ongoing to establish all circumstances and identify any other people involved. The suspect benefits from the presumption of innocence until a final court decision.
