Europol backs EU work to keep pace with e-evidence
A new Commission and Europol analysis maps common gaps in digital forensics capacity.
Europol is supporting a new European assessment of how well Europe’s digital forensic capabilities can handle the flood of e-evidence from modern technologies.
Coordinated by the European Commission with Europol, the analysis draws on stakeholder consultations, dedicated meetings, surveys and expert contributions at Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre.
The findings highlight shared pressure points across investigations. Investigative tools, resources and expertise are struggling to keep up with both the forms and the volume of digital evidence generated today.
The work also reflects the need to coordinate how digital evidence is handled, as investigators face growing complexity and scale from digitalisation.
The latest status is that the assessment and its conclusions on capability gaps are published as part of ongoing efforts led by the European Commission together with Europol.
