Larnaca court postpones trial of knife kidnapping accused man
A 36-year-old charged with 11 offences remains in custody until November 4.
A 36-year-old man accused of kidnapping two women after threatening them with a knife in a Larnaca flat will face court again on November 4.
Police said the trial at the Larnaca permanent criminal court was due to start on Monday but was adjourned to November 4. The defendant, facing 11 charges, remains in custody after appearing in court on October 12.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges including abduction, causing bodily harm, threats of violence, assault, psychological abuse, carrying a knife and unlawful entry.
Police were alerted on March 25 after a man was reportedly seen on a Larnaca flat balcony waving a knife and shouting threats. Officers received a report from the city centre that two women were inside the flat while the suspect threatened them from the balcony.
The area was cordoned off and negotiators from the Special Operations Unit were called in. The man was arrested and taken to Larnaca CID for questioning, while the two women were hospitalised for medical checks.
The latest development is the court’s decision to postpone the trial, with the accused still in custody ahead of the November 4 hearing.
