Police carry out Operation Jupiter 6 raids at 200 addresses
Prosecutors report 202 search warrants, 23 summons warrants and over 15 million lei in alleged damage.
Prosecutors and police launched Operation “Jupiter 6” with raids across Romania, carrying out more than 200 searches on the first day in Bucharest and several counties.
The operation involved 39 operational actions, with prosecutors putting 202 home search warrants into execution and 23 summons warrants.
Authorities are targeting alleged illegal activity including tax evasion and money laundering, along with smuggling, fraud and qualified theft. Investigators also include alleged offences connected to a “wood mafia.”
The cases cover a broad range of crimes, from falsifying documents, abuse in office and breaches of gambling rules to putting counterfeit products into circulation. Prosecutors also list alleged serious offences involving minors, including rape of a minor, sexual corruption of minors, ill-treatment of a minor and acts that enable sexual acts between minors.
Investigators are also looking into alleged violations of weapons and ammunition laws, illegal possession of explosive materials, poaching, illegal logging and theft of trees, as well as offences related to waste regulations.
During the raids, police are searching for and seizing accounting and financial tax documents, records, computers, phones and other electronic devices that could provide evidence. They are also looking for weapons and ammunition held illegally, explosive materials, pyrotechnic articles and items suspected to come from criminal activities.
Prosecutors say the identified damage in cases tied to the operation totals 15,171,256 lei and 1,520,000 euro. The investigation also aims to recover proceeds of alleged crimes, with measures planned to prevent criminals from keeping or disposing of illegally obtained assets.
The case remains under investigation, with summons warrants being executed to hear people involved in the criminal files.
