Police pull overloaded Kleintransporter with 40 serious faults in Vienna
Weiterfahrt untersagt, Kennzeichentafeln abgenommen, 21 defects meant immediate danger.
Vienna police stopped an overloaded Kleintransporter on the Wiener Außenring-Schnellstraße S1 and found 40 serious technical defects during a technical inspection.
On 5 October 2026, officers from the Landesverkehrsabteilung Wien became suspicious after spotting the van on Romanian plates in a “desolated” condition. The vehicle was about one tonne over the allowed limit.
At the Landesfahrzeugprüfstelle, inspectors recorded 40 defects in total, including 21 where “danger in time” was identified. The gravest problems included broken and partially missing suspension parts, large-scale rust on load-bearing components, and major defects in the braking system. The handbrake was also found to be severely weakened.
Police also reported a significant oil leak and that the exhaust system appeared to have been manipulated. The 39-year-old driver was not allowed to continue driving.
Officers provisionally took the licence plates and collected a security deposit. Both the driver and the vehicle owner were reported.
