Police in Pavia arrest man after owner spots restaurant theft on app
The 42-year-old was caught forcing a back entrance and accused of multiple offences.
A restaurant owner in Pavia spotted a burglary attempt in real time on a smartphone app, leading police to arrest a man in the act.
Police intercepted the suspect as he tried to force entry to a restaurant on Lungoticino, then attempted to flee. When officers caught up with him, he allegedly resisted with shoves and kicks.
The call came to 112 in the night between Friday and Saturday, after the owner watched the attempt through the restaurant’s video surveillance system via the app on his phone.
Officers stopped him while he was still trying to break in, using a garden tool. A search found a backpack with tools for forced entry, as well as Christmas lights and LED lamps that were allegedly stolen from a nearby storage area belonging to the same restaurant, with the theft treated as completed rather than only attempted.
Police then carried out a subsequent home search, where they found and seized more goods including electrical appliances, cameras, religious frames, several bunches of keys, and jewellery. Investigators continued checks to determine where the items came from. Because the goods were considered illicit, the suspect was reported for receiving stolen property.
The man, 42, Romanian, was reported while free for aggravated theft, receiving stolen property, and resisting a public official.
The investigation continues as authorities carry out further checks on the seized items and their provenance, with the suspect facing charges.
