Polish police have arrested a man suspected of issuing threats and planning an attack against Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the country’s interior minister said. Marcin Kierwiński, cited by AP and BTA, did not provide details about the suspect’s identity or the type of attack that was being planned. He thanked police for “quick and decisive action.” Polish authorities said they received information about a potential plot to attack Tusk and Minister of Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz earlier in the day. The intelligence services, police, and representatives of the Ministry of the Interior held an urgent meeting after the tip. Jacek Dobzyński, spokesperson for the minister responsible for Polish intelligence services, said the information was treated with the utmost seriousness and that, according to officials, there is a high likelihood the threats could be carried out. He said the information first came to the State Protection Service, which then passed it to the police. Dobzyński added that intelligence services are receiving more threats each month. Government spokesperson Adam Szlapa said Tusk learned about the threat early that morning and that, while officials sometimes receive threats, this one was especially worrying. The case remains at the investigation stage, with the suspect in custody following the arrest.
