Police chase two teens for 40 minutes on the A3 near Montabaur
A 16-year-old and his 17-year-old passenger were arrested after dangerous manoeuvres and hits.
Police stopped and arrested two teenagers after a chase on the A3 near Montabaur that lasted about 40 minutes.
The pursuit began Sunday evening around 8.30 pm in Frankfurt am Main, after officers spotted a car with Wiesbaden plates following a traffic violation. When the police asked the driver to pull over, he fled onto the A3 toward Cologne.
During the escape, police said the driver carried out several dangerous manoeuvres. Near a construction site just before Montabaur, officers finally managed to stop the vehicle roughly 40 minutes later.
The 16-year-old driver and his 17-year-old passenger were taken out of the car and arrested. Before the stop, the teenager allegedly tried to keep fleeing and touched two cars belonging to people not involved in the incident. A Hessian police vehicle was also damaged after an object was allegedly thrown out of the window during the escape.
Police said investigators still need to determine how the two youths from North Rhine-Westphalia obtained their escape car. Officers also said the driver has come to police attention multiple times for traffic offences.
More than 50 officers from Hessen and Rhineland-Palatinate were involved, with a police helicopter assisting the operation. The teens were handed to their parents.
Police said a separate pursuit in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler later involved four youths in a stolen sports car, and another chase early Friday ended in an accident with three injured.
