Carabinieri arrest an illegal intruder after 4,000 euro pescheria damage
The suspect allegedly smashed a shutter and broke an electric motor before police caught him in flagrante.
PORTO EMPEDOCLE, Agrigento, Italy. Carabinieri arrested a 36-year-old man accused of attempted aggravated theft after he allegedly forced entry into a fish shop and caused damage worth 4,000 euros.
The incident targeted a pescheria in Porto Empedocle. The intruder allegedly battered the entrance shutter with violence, destroying the shop’s electric motor linked to the automatic opening system.
Police were able to move quickly after the business’s alarm systems detected an intruder while the owner was physically abroad. The owner contacted 112, and officers were dispatched to the area.
Carabinieri arrived within minutes and intercepted the suspect near the shop, immobilising him before he could carry out an intrusion. Investigators then rebuilt the attempt using witness accounts and footage from the shop’s video surveillance.
Records checks also pointed to irregularities. The man was allegedly without a valid residence permit, with a permit expired in 2024 that was never renewed. Investigators also found he was subject to an expulsion order issued in 2018 but never executed.
The 36-year-old was arrested and placed in custody on orders from the Prosecutor’s Office of Agrigento. The case is ongoing, with the presumption of innocence applying until any final conviction.
