Portuguese police cleared a woonprotest tent camp on Rossio in Lisbon overnight, detaining 31 people. The operation by the special unit Unidade Especial de Polícia started around 2.00 a.m. on Saturday into Sunday and removed 171 constructions. Officers used batons, shields and dogs, after more than two hours of attempted dialogue and three calls for people to leave. Police said 25 people were detained in Lisbon and 6 in Porto for ignoring orders. The demonstrators had set up the camp on 17 October after a CGTP rally. According to the police, 11 people were injured, including three officers. Organisers dispute the figures, saying higher numbers were hurt, with Casa para Viver speaking of 60 injuries and Acampada do Porto reporting 37 injuries in Porto, seven of them serious. The organisers also claim rubber bullets were used. They later described bottle-throwing by demonstrators and said barricades were built from containers. The detained people were released and must appear in court on Monday. It was the second eviction in Lisbon in six days, after 55 people were detained on 20 October.
