Five people have been indicted in Romania over an alleged €1.8 million scheme to rig EU funded public procurement. Prosecutors from the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Bucharest filed the indictment at the Bucharest Tribunal against five individuals accused of setting up a criminal group targeting procurement procedures in Romanian municipalities. The case focuses on alleged fraud in public contracting, where EU funding was involved. Prosecutors say the group aimed to defraud the procurement process while benefiting from money tied to EU backed projects. The indictment was filed at the Bucharest Tribunal on Wednesday, initiating court proceedings in the EPPO case. The matter is currently at the court stage after the indictment was lodged, with the accused facing charges connected to the alleged fraudulent procurement scheme.
