Russian authorities have arrested three suspected members of the DataSuckers hacking and data extortion group, which operates across the former Soviet space. The group, which authorities say has four members in total spread across Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, began operating this year and has been linked to at least three major hacks, including Ukrainian supermarket chain ATB Market, Russian travel company Tez Tour and Russian pizza chain Dodo Pizza. Denis A. Friedman, a 19-year-old from Barnaul, was arraigned in a Moscow court on Wednesday. No other details were provided about the other two detained suspects. Investigators launched an inquiry after DataSuckers attacked Dodo Pizza, which runs more than 1,500 restaurants across 28 countries. Authorities say the hackers found valid credentials in the company’s GitHub accounts and used them to access backend systems. Friedman allegedly connected from his home IP address, which investigators say left a trail. The group is described as breaching networks, stealing data, destroying systems and demanding ransoms while threatening to sell stolen files. Friedman has been placed under house arrest for two months, until December 8, and faces up to six years in prison if found guilty on the current charges. Legal proceedings are now underway following the arrests, with the investigation continuing as authorities pursue the remaining suspects.
