Seven arrests in Brazil as Europol-backed probe targets South America-Europe cocaine pipeline
The operation, code-named 'EREDITÀ', culminates a multi-year investigation supported by Italy and Brazil.
Europol said it supported law enforcement agencies from Italy and Brazil in dismantling a drug trafficking and money laundering network linked to the Italian ‘Ndrangheta.
The operation, code-named ‘EREDITÀ’, resulted in seven arrests and is described as the culmination of a multi-year investigation into large-scale cocaine trafficking and money laundering between South America and Europe.
Europol said the case builds on earlier Italian and Brazilian operations ‘SAMBA’ and ‘MAFIUSI’. Those prior actions led to a total of 28 arrests across both countries.
According to Europol, the cross-border investigation focused on an organised network that combined cocaine trafficking with financial crime, prompting police cooperation between Italy and Brazil with Europol support.
The arrests do not mean guilt has been established. The information released by Europol describes the enforcement action taken during the investigation and the number of people taken into custody.
The development is part of Europol’s ongoing efforts to support member state and partner countries in disrupting major criminal networks active across European and South American routes.
