Police seize AK-47 and antitank rocket in Sevilla gun trafficking probe
Three suspects are detained after raids uncover war weapons allegedly linked to narcotics traffickers.
Spanish National Police detained three people in Sevilla province over suspected possession and trafficking of war weapons, seizing an AK-47 assault rifle and an M80 antitank rocket.
The operation began in June, when investigators learned of a possible network selling war weapons in Sevilla. Early inquiries pointed to intermediaries based in Dos Hermanas, allegedly acting between weapons suppliers and potential buyers. Police said illegal AK-47 prices could reach around 6,000 euros per unit.
During the investigation, officers placed one main suspect under surveillance. Police later observed a vehicle movement involving another person.
When the suspects spotted the police presence, they fled. During the chase, the occupants threw a bag onto a public road. Officers recovered it and found the AK-47 and an operational M80 antitank rocket.
The two people in the vehicle were intercepted and detained. A third arrest followed, linked to the intermediating role in the weapons trade.
As the investigation continued, police carried out four home entries and searches, three in Dos Hermanas and one in Sevilla.
Investigators said the findings show channels for the suspected sale of war weapons intended for criminal organizations connected to drug trafficking. Particular emphasis was placed on the seized M80 rocket, described as an army-use weapon in working condition, posing a risk to public safety. The three detainees were taken before the investigating judge in functions of duty court in Dos Hermanas.
