Police in Krakow have arrested two suspected attackers after a mass shooting in the city centre that left five people dead. The attack happened on 7 November around 15:00 local time, on Krakow’s Main Square, Polish media reported. Another 17 people were injured. According to reports, a car drove into a crowded area before the unknown occupants opened fire on people. A police pursuit followed through city streets. Videos shared by witnesses showed a dark passenger car moving through the area while people ran in panic and tried to hide in nearby shops, with at least two police vehicles following. Initial reporting said one suspect was detained. Photos and video circulated online showing several officers holding a man in camouflage on the ground, with a weapon nearby, believed to be an AR-15/M4-type semi-automatic rifle. Later, The Insider said the detention took place at the Dietla and Stradomska intersection, about one kilometre from the Main Square. Images showed the man wearing camouflage clothing, a ballistic vest and a helmet. During the arrest, he was wounded and taken to hospital. Media reports said police fired at the suspect at least seven times. Footage also showed one officer aiming the man while another unloaded his firearm, and the suspect’s car collided with a police vehicle. By 18:25, Polish Radio reported police had detained both suspected shooters. One of them was injured and hospitalised. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the incident a terrorist act. The names of the suspects, their motives, and whether there were other accomplices were not given in the available information. Police are still piecing together the circumstances of the attack and each suspect’s role.
