A joint investigation led by the Spanish National Police (Policía Nacional) with support from Europol has resulted in the arrest of 21 suspects over offences including participation in a criminal organisation, drug trafficking and money laundering. The operation included an “action day” carried out in Spain on 22 July 2026, during which 15 suspects were arrested. Spanish authorities also issued 19 international arrest warrants as part of the same case. Investigators say the probe targeted “underground bankers” connected to the alleged criminal activity. The authorities involved include the Spanish National Police and Europol, which supported the investigation. At this stage, the individuals arrested are only accused as part of the legal process. Arrests do not mean guilt has been established. The case concerns suspected offences that prosecutors and police allege are linked to drug trafficking and money laundering, along with alleged participation in a criminal organisation. Further developments would depend on how the investigations and any subsequent court proceedings proceed.
