Police in Turin arrest 3 suspects over mother robbery and bottle assault
A 29-year-old is jailed for stealing a necklace from a mother with a baby, while a 19-year-old faces charges for a car break-in.
Turin police carried out three separate operations, arresting three suspects over a robbery, a bottle assault and a attempted car theft.
In the first case, a 29-year-old Moroccan man was arrested and placed in pre-trial detention for a robbery with aggravating circumstances on 22 August. Investigators say he targeted a woman outside a gelateria in via Chiesa della Salute while she was with her four-month-old child, yanking a gold necklace from her neck.
During the escape, the attacker allegedly hit the stroller, putting the baby at risk of falling. He then fled on a scooter driven by a supposed accomplice.
Police used CCTV images from the area and compared them with identification photographs, building what investigators described as a serious, precise and consistent case against the suspect, who has previous convictions. The measure of custody in prison was executed by State Police.
The second intervention took place at Torino Porta Nuova station. Police stopped a foreign man living irregularly on the national territory after an assault that left another man with aggravated injuries.
Officers noticed a victim almost unconscious with heavy bleeding from his left arm, and brought him to the Mauriziano Hospital. Investigators reconstructed the incident through surveillance footage, saying the attacker broke a glass bottle on the ground during a struggle and used a shard to strike the victim’s left arm.
Later that night, officers located the suspect near the station and found in his backpack the clothes he allegedly wore in the attack, stained with blood. He was taken to the Lorusso and Cutugno prison facility after police ordered his detention while the case moved forward under judicial authority.
In the third operation, officers in the Parella district arrested a 19-year-old for attempted aggravated theft from a parked car. The call came after residents reported an alarm, and police arrived in via Locana to find a group of people near the vehicle.
One man allegedly ran when he saw the police, changing direction to try to evade them. He was caught shortly after, and investigators said he tried to break the car window with a cobblestone found on the road and then searched inside for valuables. The 19-year-old was arrested for attempted aggravated theft.
The three cases were handled by different State Police units, with investigations continuing under the authorities’ respective responsibilities.
