After a shooting in Trappes and La Verrière that left one man dead and five people wounded, including a 12-year-old girl, investigators placed three people close to the suspected gunman in police custody. One of them is Kevin T.’s mother. She turned up at police alone after her son was arrested, without any prior summons reported in the case. The custody measures were announced by the Parquet national antiterroriste (PNAT) after Kevin T., 39, was arrested Friday, 23 October, following the attack. While the exact role of each person under custody has not been detailed, the probe is focused on what the suspect’s circle knew and whether anyone helped before the attack. The investigation is also looking at the timeline leading up to the shooting. Kevin T. was initially hard to locate. His run ended in Coignières, after police stopped him several dozen minutes after the shooting. In custody, his mother and two other relatives and acquaintances are being questioned as part of the terrorism track. Custody can last up to 96 hours for the suspect, and it was extended on Saturday. Toxicology tests are under way. Investigators say the suspect was arrested with cocaine, tear gas canisters and a Sten MK II submachine gun. The weapon’s origin is still being traced. At Kevin T.’s home in Plaisir, police also found an apartment rigged with gas canisters. Police are also working to pin down a motive. The first explanations allegedly given by Kevin T. point to a reaction to looting carried out by masked people around the 17 October demonstration. “I can’t take it anymore,” he allegedly told officers at the time of his arrest in Coignières. Saturday, investigators also confirmed that the case remains open for further steps as they seek to reconstruct the events and possible connections around the seized weapon. Legal status: three people from the suspect’s family and close circle are in custody as the investigation continues under the PNAT’s anti-terror remit.
