Călin Georgescu will learn on 9 November whether a court will lift the seizure order placed on his accounts, after DIICOT went to appeal. The case centers on financial measures taken by DIICOT over Georgescu’s money. The defence argues the seizure leaves his wife and two minor children without funds to live, after money set aside was spent during his preventive detention. The request is scheduled for 9 November 2026 at the Bucharest Tribunal. The hearing date was set after the court delayed its decision on 26 October 2026. Court records cited in the report also describe ongoing custody proceedings. On the same day, the court heard a request to extend Georgescu’s preventive arrest and that of Ionel Rusen. Georgescu’s accounts were frozen across seven accounts. The total sums mentioned are 44 lei and 104,274.57 euro. Three of the seven accounts are empty. Another holds 39 lei, and another holds 5 lei. Two accounts contain 3,176.58 euro, while the largest deposit recorded is 101,097.99 euro in a single account. The report links the seized amounts to a claimed prejudice of 1.1 million euro in the case, attributed to a complainant identified only as Răzvan Leu. The defence also points to other frozen property. Georgescu has a seizure placed on a villa in Mogoșoaia, where a definitive court decision already exists. Georgescu and Ionel Rusen remain in preventive arrest. The Bucharest Court of Appeal admitted DIICOT’s appeal against an earlier decision by the Bucharest Tribunal that had replaced the arrest measure with judicial supervision, and the ruling is described as final. Supporters have been protesting around the clock outside the Central Arrest in Bucharest, demanding Georgescu’s release. The report also mentions that politicians, including europarliamentarian Luis Lazarus, said they would visit him in custody daily. For now, Georgescu’s next key status point is the 9 November hearing on whether the seizure of his accounts will be lifted, while preventive arrest continues for both him and Ionel Rusen.
