The EPPO-backed probe, dubbed Midas, led to arrests in three countries this week.
Five suspects were arrested this week in a Europe-wide investigation into a suspected €114 million VAT fraud linked to the probe known as “Investigation Midas”. The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Munich requested the arrests, with three carried out in Cyprus, one in Germany and one in Italy.
The alleged fraud involves VAT, with the total amount put at €114 million. The operation resulted in simultaneous action across the three countries.
The investigation was launched and driven at the request of the EPPO in Munich. Arrests were made in Cyprus, Germany and Italy, where authorities moved against the suspects as part of the same VAT fraud case tied to the Midas investigation.
As of now, the case remains in the investigation stage following the arrests, with the EPPO-led probe continuing.
