Pizza Fan tax fraud alleged software concealed €25 million in VAT
Police have arrested nine people and seized over €500,000 in cash from the owner’s home.
Authorities are investigating an alleged €25 million tax fraud scheme involving Pizza Fan, with police believing specially installed software was used to conceal revenue and evade VAT payments.
Police say the software was integrated into the company’s central ordering system, enabling Pizza Fan to report lower sales figures to tax authorities than the business generated. The alleged scheme began in 2022.
So far, nine people have been arrested, including the company’s owner and several accountants suspected of helping run the operation. During a search of the owner’s home, officers found a concealed room hidden behind a piece of furniture, containing more than €500,000 in cash. Police also seized jewelry of considerable value.
Investigators are expanding the probe to employees at around 20 outlets directly controlled by the owner. Prosecutors are also preparing charges against operators of about 80 franchised outlets, although those filings are expected to exclude participation in a criminal organization. Police say the franchise operators were aware the illegal software was being used.
The investigation is continuing as authorities work to establish the full extent of the alleged tax evasion scheme.
